Sustainable Company

Responsibility begins with ourselves

At Caparol, sustainability is the result of a strong joint effort: as part of the DAW Group, we belong to a fifth-generation family company with Germany roots that has always considered sustainability to be a central value and the core of its business philosophy. Whether at our international production sites or in the procurement of raw materials: we want to do business in an environmentally conscious and socially fair manner – and thus lay a responsible foundation in our direct sphere of influence for the development of innovations that contribute to more sustainable buildings.

Our Climate Protection Strategy

We are continuously expanding our commitment to climate protection – in line with the Paris Climate Agreement. In our home market of Germany, our administration and production processes have already been 100% climate-neutral since 2017. For this purpose, the power supply was switched to 100% green electricity from renewable energy sources. In addition, we generate energy from our own photovoltaic system and heat pump. We offset the unavoidable emissions by purchasing emission certificates. With our “Climate Strategy”, we are consistently moving forward along this path. In addition, we are currently developing an approach for our international sites to assess and further reduce our total greenhouse gas emissions.

Systematic Environmental Protection

We aim to minimise the impact of our economic activities on the environment. To put this into practice in our daily work, we use employee training, performance indicators and management systems. In addition to various local systems at our international sites, our plants in our home market of Germany have been audited for an Integrated Management System (IMS), which combines quality management according to ISO 9001, environmental management according to ISO 14001, occupational safety management according to ISO 45001 and energy management according to ISO 50001. At all our sites, we are continuously striving to reduce waste and optimise our production in order to implement energy-efficient and resource-saving processes.

Trained employees and management systems ensure environmental protection.
We invest in fair working conditions and occupational safety.

Good Work and Human Rights

We respect human rights and comply with the laws of the countries in which we operate. We do not tolerate bribery and corruption. Our code of conduct additionally defines internal dos and don’ts for our activities and business processes, compliance with which is mandatory for all our employees. We regard cultural diversity and tolerance as important strengths that we support and protect. We underscore this by signing the “Charta der Vielfalt” (Diversity Charter). To remain fit for the future, we invest in our locations and our employees, especially in fair working conditions and occupational safety.

Sustainable Supply Chain

Sustainable business practices are not only a priority in our own company, we also promote them together with our suppliers. Even before laws in the European Union started to increasingly regulate companies’ supply chains, we had an eye on them: the DAW Supplier Code of Conduct obliges our suppliers to comply with the laws applicable to them and the principles of the UN Global Compact. These include respect for human rights, the fight against forced and child labour, measures to protect the environment and to combat corruption and bribery. We do not tolerate any violation of the DAW Supplier Code of Conduct.

The DAW Supplier Code of Conduct commits to the principles of the UN Global Compact.
DAW Sustainability Advisory Board

Strong Partnership for Sustainability

We see ourselves as part of society and we can achieve more together with partners. As early as 2012, the DAW Group signed the United Nations Global Compact and thus joined the network of supporters of the 2030 Agenda with its 17 Sustainable Development Goals. We are a founding member of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB). As the only company in the industry, we have had an external sustainability advisory board since 2010, which includes personalities from the fields of architecture, the painting trade and science. With our social commitment, we promote children’s aid projects as well as craftsmanship and high-quality building culture.
