The Basic 1 system is a transparent hydrophobic treatment that reduces capillary water absorption and improves freeze-thaw resistance. Surface protection with this system is a relatively simple solution that is often used on intact concrete structures to extend durability. A major advantage of this system is that the concrete surface does not change in appearance, but effectively prevents water from penetrating the concrete.

With the Basic 2 system, a colourless or transparent coating based on pure acrylate is applied to the concrete. In contrast to the Basic 1 system, a film-forming layer is applied to the concrete, which not only reduces water absorption but also protects against carbonation. Uneven concrete surfaces, such as partially repaired areas, can be optically corrected by colouring the finish. The system thus enables the best possible protection of the concrete without detracting from the characteristic concrete appearance.

In addition to water absorption, System 2 also reduces the penetration of substances that attack concrete and reinforcing steel and protects the concrete against carbonation. The system structure consists of a hydrophobic treatment and a CO2-inhibiting coating. Pores and blowholes remain visible, but the hydrophobic treatment effectively protects the concrete against moisture ingress. The system is often used on intact concrete surfaces when the concrete formwork must remain visible.
